Anglers are pounding the more notable spots 24/ 7 from June through September and even into October, with 90 percent of the real catching taking place at night, late at night in some cases. That means if you want to improve your odds, you have to change the game and you will have to adapt. Fishing deep or deeper generally means trolling in the muskie world, although you can choose to present soft plastics, which will in fact produce from time to time. However, you will still find yourself fishing basically the same pressured waters and competing for struc-ture, just a bit further off the breaks. So let's stay with the trolling aspects of the sport for the time being. Trolling some of these muskie, pike and laker waters will in and of itself present some dilemmas in terms of lure choice. For the most part, you will find your-self pulling Worden's T- 60 Flatfish, Grandmas in 9" and 13" versions or Believers in 10" and 13" sizes. Your speeds will often near or exceed the 5 mph mark, and if for no other reason than the need for speed, you are restricted to basically a few lure groups. As productive as they are, they are not always going to produce. What about all those super productive double bladed monster bucktails you have purchased, such as A- Team's Avenger- X or spinnerbaits including the Assassin- X, that in no way can be pulled at 5mph, but produce very well when being cast and retrieved? Are you to let these favorites simply go to waste in times when trolling becomes necessary? I say, not, or maybe I should say, Spin- Not. were not useful for trolling at all, much less at speeds faster than 2.0 mph. The concept is simple. Counteract the torque of a lure's action and prevent it from turning or rolling at any reasonable speed. The Spin- Not does just that. Simply choose the weight class you desire, 3/ 4 oz, 11/ 2 oz. or the 2 oz. version. Attach your leader or snap to the provided eye at the 90 degree bend in the wire frame and connect the Spin- Not to your lure at the appropriate place. Place it in the water and start trolling. It's that simple and that effective. We have proven the Spin- Not to be more than pro-ductive by trolling and catching fish at various high speeds with lures that would otherwise be thought of as shallow, slow moving baits at best. We have presented the Avenger- X to depths of more than 20 feet while never missing a blade beat. We have caught fish at speeds nearing 4 mph while ticking the tops of sunken islands peaking at 14 feet deep. This is a lure that by all rights should never get to those depths at such speeds without the assistance of a downrigger, and if it did would be tying your line into knots simply because of its inherent design. The Spin- Not simply puts a stop to all spinning due to blade or lure torque. In another test we ran a num-ber of soft bodied, otherwise shallow running crankbaits to depths of more than 20 feet at speeds greater than 4 mph and experienced no blowout. Most of these lures will tend to lose their ability to run straight if exposed to high speeds. But this is not the case when they are used in conjunction with A- Team's Spin- Not. Spinnerbaits? No problem. Simply choose your favorite ( in our case the A- Team Assassin- X), attach it as instructed to your desired weighted Spin- Not and start catching fish you have been missing for decades. With the aid of the Spin- Not, you can troll at high speed directly in the prop wash with spinnerbaits that would normally roll out or in some cases even come to the surface. Virtually no lure is exempt from becoming even more productive than the manufacturer intended with the aid of the Spin- Not. Speeds of more than 6 mph have been reached during testing so don't be afraid to experiment. Some lures will withstand higher speeds than others so be aware that if adjustments are need-ed, they can be made in the form of lure choice, weight choice and last but not least the choice of your speed.
