the Upper Midwest, the drive to Lake Erie is almost all interstate highways. To the seasoned walleye angler, Huron, Ohio is the Mecca for old " marble- eyes." Many of you have fished the Port Clinton area in the spring for pre and post spawn walleyes, but few anglers venture another 25 miles east to the Huron- Vermillion area for this fall walleye bonanza. The town of Huron is located between Marble-head and Vermillion, Ohio. Here's some important information that is necessary to know before you make the trek to Lake Erie. There are three separate schools of walleyes that roam the waters of Lake Erie chasing schools of baitfish. There's the Western Basin, the Central Basin, and the Eastern Basin, all who have their own schools of fish that have distinct migratory routes that they regularly follow year- round. Though these migratory routes may vary slightly from year to year, they basically follow the same course every fall. These Great Lakes walleyes are at the same locations at specific and certain times of the year with little change from year to year. These open water nomads follow the huge schools of bait-fish that the lake's currents and winds blow around Lake Erie. I've learned from friends, many who are charter captains, that these travel routes that the walleyes follow religiously are the basically the same every fall. As the water cools, walleyes move back into the Western Basin from other Basins of Lake Erie and remain in this area off Huron to feed on the abundant forage of gizzard shad, emerald cont. on pg 33
